THEME- CAMP
NOTES ON CAMP
This project is an amalgamation of photography and styling inputs into interpreting the Metgala 2019 theme- CAMP. The task was to style a hypothetical Indian celebrity who had just made a debut and is appearing for the event. Thereby, a leaflet is designed to promote the appearance within the fashion-savvy Indian market.
An interpretation of the Metropolitan Museum of Art's 2019 Gala theme, Camp
The exhibition was launched with fashion's largest celebration at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City on Monday, May 6th, 2019 marking the event's 71st anniversary.
The theme "Camp" was inspired by an essay written by Susan Sontag titled Notes On "Camp". Camp was defined as something that is artifice, outlandish and extra. Camp is man-made and urban. The hallmark of Camp is the spirit of extravagance. Camp is a woman walking around in a dress made of three million feathers.
Taking up a conceptual styling project, we created an ensemble and look for the fashion event, Met Gala,2019. We used dead palm leaves to create an extravagant dress and gave it a golden metallic finish with swaroski embellishments on the stems to add to the artifice element. It was a satire on the theme as to how we should not be emptying the reserves of nature to fulfill our ornamental needs and create sustainable designs that are conceptualized keeping the benefits of mother earth in consideration.
A person adorning this dress at the event would lay emphasis on Aesthetics with a cause.
